Groupe Grimaud, founded in 1966 and based in Sèvremoine (Maine-et-Loire), is a French company specializing in the manufacture of animal genetics and biopharmaceuticals. Present in over 100 countries, it employs around 2,100 people.

In 2022, it adopted the status of a mission-driven company with the mission “To care for life”, broken down into five commitments: the company, its teams, people, animals and the planet.

Problems encountered

Before working with Tranquil IT, Groupe Grimaud was encountering several difficulties in managing its IT equipment:

- Time-consuming deployment of workstations: manual installation of software and updates without centralized management, very difficult especially with remote sites.
- Lack of update tracking: no effective solution to ensure correct application versioning.
- Limited existing solutions: the MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit) previously used was not adapted to their needs, especially when it came to installing specific applications.
- Difficulties linked to the technical team: time-consuming tasks linked to the deployment method, the team had to constantly adapt to user demand. Depending on the workload, 1 to 2 people were dedicated to the deployment of workstations on a full-time basis over the course of a week.

Windows 10/11 upgrade management

In response to Microsoft’s announcement that Windows 10 support will end in October 2025, Groupe Grimaud has decided to migrate to Windows 11.

In their tests, they found that the 6 GB ISO image of the “windows11-upgrade” is downloaded before executing the setup.py script, which checks the workstation’s compatibility. This process results in unnecessary bandwidth consumption for non-compatible workstations.
To solve this problem, the Tranquil IT teams proposed to set up a reporting system on the “windows11-requirements” package. This solution enables us to filter the workstations eligible for upgrading, thus optimizing bandwidth use.
